This organization provides no-cost home safety and accessibility modifications for qualified low-income homeowners who are older adults (55+) or are living with a disability. OUR site is for anyone who is interested in or currently participating in the
Caregiver Support or Care Management programs offered by Catholic Charities of
Saint Paul and Minneapolis.

Caregiver Support provides a holistic approach for caregivers responsible
for 24/7 care of an older adult with an age-related health issue, diagnosis or
dementia.

Care Management provides intensive in-home care management for
vulnerable, low-income older adults.

Please become a member and explore aging with us. Share your experiences of the aging process or of providing care to a loved one. Help others learn through your personal experiences.

CAREGIVER SUPPORT PROGRAM - How can it help me?

Do you feel you are spending most of your time caring for your loved one?
Do you worry about leaving your loved one alone?
Do you have concerns about maintaining a good quality of life for your loved one?
Are the stresses of caring for your loved one leaving you feeling burned out?

A Family Consultant from this program can:

o Provide coaching when the stress of caregiving makes decision making hard
o Help provide answers to questions about resources and age-related illnesses
o Help with paperwork and investigate financial alternatives
o Provide a supervised volunteer offering respite support for you!

CARE MANAGEMENT PROGRAM - WHAT IS IT?

The Senior Care Management Program helps older adults to remain safe and independent in their community. The Care Management Team has extensive experience working with diverse and non-English speaking clients, particularly Hmong and Somali, and provides the following:
•A comprehensive assessment of needs, development of a care plan and ongoing support from a Care Manager
One-on-one assistance in applications for County programs to help pay for services in the home (i.e. homemaking, PCA, nursing, food support)
Referrals to service providers
•Help to research, submit applications and coordinate moving from home to public housing, senior housing and assisted living settings
Advocacy related to housing issues
•Adult Protection referrals in cases of suspected financial, emotional and physical abuse

I wonder if family caregivers could have a mileage expense deduction?  Transportation expenses can often become a tax deduction for paid workers so why not for unpaid workers as well?
